Human rights activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has refuted claims circulating online that he has filed an appeal on behalf of Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.

In an exclusive telephone interview with Punch on Monday, Adeyanju clarified that he is not representing the cross-dresser in any legal capacity.

“I didn’t file any appeal on Bobrisky’s behalf. I am not representing Bobrisky on any matter,” Adeyanju stated, addressing the rumors directly.

Bobrisky was arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Friday, April 5, facing charges including abuse of the naira and money laundering.

While the court acquitted him of the money laundering charges, he pleaded guilty to four counts of naira abuse. Subsequently, on Friday, April 12, he was sentenced to six months in prison without the option of a fine.

Reports emerged on Monday claiming that Bobrisky had appealed his sentence, requesting that the appellate court overturn the six-month imprisonment. These reports included unfounded assertions about Adeyanju’s involvement in the appeal process.

The misinformation about Adeyanju’s role has been widely circulated, prompting his clarification.

Adeyanju, known for his advocacy on various human rights issues, reiterated his non-involvement in this legal matter, aiming to set the record straight amid the ongoing public and media discourse surrounding Bobrisky’s legal challenges.
