In a bid to ensure a seamless and corruption-free 2024 Hajj exercise, the Executive Chairman of the Kaduna State Pilgrims Welfare Agency, Malam Salihu S. Abubakar, has issued a stern warning to appointed officials against soliciting or accepting bribes, citing religious prohibitions against such actions in Islam.
Speaking during the inaugural meeting between officials and members of the committee tasked with overseeing this year’s Hajj operations, Abubakar emphasized the importance of serving pilgrims with integrity and the fear of Allah (SWT).
He commended Governor Uba Sani for empowering the agency to select competent and experienced individuals for the Hajj facilitation process.
“We should seek our reward from Allah (SWT). We should do our best to satisfy pilgrims and we should listen to their complaints whenever they arise,” Abubakar asserted, cautioning officials against compromising their duties for personal gain.
He reiterated the agency’s zero-tolerance policy towards any form of financial misconduct, including the collection of bribes or gratuities.
Particularly, Abubakar warned Pilgrim Registration Officers against collecting money for Hadaya, the ritual slaughter of rams during Hajj.
He emphasized the importance of transparent and accountable financial transactions, urging pilgrims to deposit funds directly into designated bank accounts rather than offering cash payments.
Addressing potential repercussions for misconduct, Abubakar stated, “Any complaint that is lodged against an official will be thoroughly investigated, and if he or she is found wanting, he or she will be handed over to security agencies for prosecution.”
This stern stance underscores the agency’s commitment to upholding ethical standards and ensuring the integrity of the Hajj process.
Abubakar also urged first-time pilgrim officials to learn from experienced counterparts, emphasizing the importance of serving Kaduna State pilgrims with dedication and adherence to Islamic values.
He expressed the agency’s unwavering commitment to a successful Hajj operation and appealed to officials for their cooperation in achieving this goal.
As preparations for the 2024 Hajj intensify, the Kaduna State Pilgrims Welfare Agency remains steadfast in its efforts to facilitate a smooth and spiritually enriching pilgrimage experience for all participants.
With a renewed focus on integrity and accountability, officials are tasked with upholding the highest standards of service delivery, guided by the principles of Islam.
