Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has pledged to establish a judicial panel of inquiry to scrutinize the governance affairs preceding his tenure, as he swore in Mr. Dagogo Israel Iboroma, SAN, as the new Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.

The Governor made this announcement during the swearing-in ceremony held at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Monday, underscoring the critical need for legal scrutiny and accountability in the state’s governance processes.

Addressing Iboroma, Governor Fubara emphasized the pivotal role the new Attorney-General would play in navigating the complex legal landscape, urging him to approach his responsibilities with diligence and integrity.

“Why are we bringing you at this very critical time? We have a lot of issues around us.

We believe that you are not going to be the one that when they send service to you, you go and file ‘nolle prosequi’ or you go and file one thing that would kill us here,” Governor Fubara stated.

He further reiterated his commitment to establishing a judicial panel of inquiry, emphasizing the necessity of a thorough investigation into past governance practices.

“We will be setting up a judicial panel of inquiry to investigate the affairs of governance. So, brace up, I am not going back on it,” Governor Fubara asserted.

Reflecting on the challenges facing his administration, Governor Fubara expressed regret over unresolved political tensions but affirmed his dedication to moving the state forward.

He highlighted the appointment of Iboroma as a crucial step towards ushering in a new era of governance in Rivers State.

“I am happy that this is happening today to mark the beginning of a new era in our administration,” Governor Fubara remarked, emphasizing the importance of unity and collective progress.

However, the Governor did not shy away from addressing past controversies, taking aim at former Attorney-General Prof.

Zaccheaus Adangor. Accusing Adangor of undermining the administration, Governor Fubara emphasized the need for integrity and professionalism in public service.

“It is good that you were already a SAN before your appointment.

This means that you’re a very thorough lawyer and has earned your appointment.

Not like the one we had here, who while in office, they went to pay money to get SAN,” Governor Fubara asserted, condemning Adangor’s alleged misconduct.

In conclusion, Governor Fubara dismissed criticisms of his leadership, affirming his belief in divine providence and the importance of upholding the interests of the people of Rivers State above all else.
