In a bid to solidify President Bola Tinubu’s vision of transitioning Nigeria’s economic focus to solid minerals amid global shifts in oil fortunes, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Oladele Alake, unveiled the Nigerian Minerals Resource Decision Support System (NMRDSS) in Abuja on Tuesday, May 14.

Alake reiterated the administration’s commitment to significantly boosting the contribution of the solid mineral sector to Nigeria’s gross domestic product (GDP), surpassing the reliance on oil revenue.

He stated, “Globally oil is dwindling. Minerals are rising… Nigeria will begin to grow, moving on the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President.”

The NMRDSS launch marks a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s economic landscape, signaling a strategic shift towards solid minerals as a cornerstone of national development.

Alake highlighted the platform’s role in addressing challenges faced by investors, particularly in accessing vital information about the sector.

Speaking on the system’s functionality, Alake emphasized its capacity to streamline investment research, thereby cutting costs and providing comprehensive data to guide prospective investors.

He remarked, “From the comfort of your office anywhere in the world, you can click the website… and right before your eyes are the data that would have cost you air tickets to access.”

The NMRDSS is poised to revolutionize the mining sector by offering unprecedented access to crucial information, including geology, hydrology, and infrastructure, thus enabling investors to make well-informed decisions and plan their investments effectively.

The significance of this software in enhancing ease of doing business in the mining sector cannot be overstated.

By eliminating the need for expensive physical travel and overcoming information barriers, the NMRDSS promises to attract more investments and propel the sector towards sustainable growth.

The unveiling ceremony, attended by stakeholders from the mining sector, underscores the collaborative effort to leverage technology in advancing Nigeria’s mining industry.

As the nation embarks on this transformative journey towards solid minerals development, the NMRDSS stands as a beacon of hope, offering a roadmap for unlocking the sector’s vast potential and driving economic prosperity.
