Man Sets Kano Mosque On Fire During Prayers

A yet-to-be-identified man set a mosque on fire during the early hours of Wednesday in Laraba Abasawa, Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State.

The arson attack occurred while worshippers were observing the ‘Subh’ prayer, leaving several individuals injured.

According to reports by Daily Trust, the assailant used petrol to ignite the fire while approximately 40 worshippers were engaged in prayer inside the mosque.

He then allegedly locked the mosque, trapping those inside as flames engulfed the building.

A member of the community, who preferred to remain anonymous, recounted the harrowing ordeal, stating, “It took time for people outside to become aware of the incident and rescue the victims who were struggling to break out.”

At least 20 worshippers sustained serious injuries in the blaze and were promptly rushed to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano for urgent medical attention.

The extent of their injuries and current condition remains undisclosed.

The motive behind the arson attack and the identity of the perpetrator is yet to be determined, prompting concerns within the community and among local authorities.

Investigations into the incident are underway, with law enforcement agencies working to apprehend the culprit and ascertain the circumstances leading to the tragic event.
