An Adamawa State High Court has issued an arrest warrant for the former Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Hudu Yusnusa-Ari, following repeated failures to appear in court for arraignment.
Hudu, who served as the REC during the last governorship election in Adamawa State, is facing charges related to declaring an incorrect winner prematurely during the electoral process.
Despite being suspended by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and facing court charges, he has consistently evaded court summons.
Justice Benjamin Manji Lawan of the Adamawa State High Court issued the warrant of arrest, directing the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to ensure Hudu’s immediate appearance in court.
In his ruling, Justice Manji cited Section 20 Subsection (1j) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law (ACJL) 2018, emphasizing the urgency of Hudu’s presence in court to address the pending charges.
The Adamawa State Government, dissatisfied with the lack of progress in Hudu’s prosecution by INEC, took legal action against him.
The state government’s counsel, L. D. Nzadon, highlighted the need for Hudu’s arrest, underscoring the importance of upholding the law and ensuring accountability.
