Tensions rise in the state, as Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara issues a stern warning to the 23 Local Government Chairmen ahead of the end of their tenure, cautioning them against actions that could lead to unrest or harm in the state.

Speaking at the flag-off of the Elele-Omoku Road project, Governor Fubara urged the council bosses to exercise restraint and avoid causing harm under the guise of supporting any political faction.

In his address, the governor emphasized the importance of responsible conduct, stating, “Politics will come, politics will go, and we will still live our lives. Don’t let anybody deceive you.

If you deliberately hurt anybody in the course of expressing your support, nobody will forgive you. You will pay for it.”

Governor Fubara’s remarks come amidst growing tensions between his administration and the local government chairmen, who recently accused the governor of withholding funds allocated to their councils.

Responding to these accusations, Governor Fubara reiterated his government’s commitment to financial transparency, assuring that all expenditures would be duly accounted for.

He disclosed that 50% of the allocated funds for the Elele-Omoku Road project, spanning 3.3km, had already been disbursed.
