President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has submitted a series of requests to the House of Representatives, including seeking approval for N24.6 billion Promissory Notes to reimburse Nasarawa and Kebbi States for the costs of their Airports taken over by the Federal Government.
In a letter read by the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, during Thursday’s Plenary, President Tinubu outlined the need for reimbursement by the takeover of airports, aligning with constitutional provisions.
“Nasarawa is to be reimbursed N9.5 billion while Kebbi is to be reimbursed to the tune of N15.1 billion,” Kalu disclosed.
President Tinubu cited Item 3 of the Second Schedule of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which places the ownership of Airports and other Aviation-related infrastructure in the exclusive list, as the legal basis for the reimbursement.
Additionally, the President presented an Executive Bill, the National Anti-Doping Bill 2024, to the House for consideration.
The proposed legislation aims to establish an agency to ensure Nigeria adheres to international standards and codes on doping.
President Tinubu emphasized the urgency of passing the Anti-Doping Bill ahead of the Olympic Games scheduled for July, urging the House to expedite its consideration.
Furthermore, President Tinubu sought the House’s approval for a supplementary budget for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) for the 2023 fiscal year.
The specifics of the supplementary budget were not immediately disclosed.
