Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has called on the Auditors-General across Nigeria to collaborate with government leaders in fostering accountable and transparent administrations.
He emphasized that such partnerships are crucial for the benefit of Nigerians.
Governor Adeleke made this call during the opening session of the 53rd biannual conference organized by the Office of the Auditor General of Osun State in collaboration with the Body of Federal and State Auditors-General of Nigeria.
The event, held in Ede, Osun State on Monday, saw attendance from Auditors-General representing various states across the federation.
“Your presence here underscores the importance of transparency, accountability, and open governance in our beloved nation.
As the Governor of Osun State, I stand before you with a firm commitment to these principles,” Adeleke stated.
He highlighted the critical role that transparency and accountability play in governance.
“Our government believes that transparency and accountability are not just buzzwords but essential pillars upon which good governance stands.
We understand that fostering an environment of openness is crucial for building trust between government and citizens,” he added.
Adeleke assured that his administration is dedicated to providing the necessary resources and support to ensure that the Office of the Auditor-General functions autonomously and maintains the highest level of professionalism.
“In Osun State, we are committed to providing the necessary resources and support to enable the auditor-general’s office to function autonomously and with the highest level of professionalism.
We believe in upholding the integrity of our financial systems and institutions, and we recognize that this begins with a strong and independent audit function,” he asserted.
Represented by his deputy, Kola Adewusi, the governor encouraged conference participants to leverage the gathering for sharing knowledge, best practices, and innovative ideas to enhance audit processes nationwide.
“I urge all participants to take full advantage of this conference to share knowledge, best practices, and innovative ideas that will further enhance the effectiveness of our audit processes.
Together, we can work towards building a more accountable and transparent government for the benefit of all Nigerians,” he urged.
Earlier, the Auditor-General for the Federation, Shaakaa Chira, in a speech read by Busayo Fawale, a director of Audit in the Office of the Auditor-General for the Federation, expressed readiness to collaborate with Auditors-General from other government tiers to improve service delivery.
Chira, appointed by President Bola Tinubu on October 20, 2023, following the retirement of Adolphus Aghughu, emphasized the importance of such cooperation.
