Liverpool Football Club has officially announced the appointment of Arne Slot as the club’s new head coach.

Slot, who will take over from Jürgen Klopp, is set to begin his tenure on June 1, 2024, pending a work permit approval.

The club made this announcement via a statement on its official website on Monday, detailing Slot’s impressive track record and his upcoming transition to the Premier League.

“Liverpool Football Club can announce Arne Slot has agreed a deal to become the club’s new head coach, formally taking up the position on June 1, 2024, subject to a work permit,” the statement read.

Slot, 45, will make the move from Feyenoord, where he has enjoyed significant success.

His arrival marks the end of Klopp’s celebrated era at Anfield, following Klopp’s decision to step down at the conclusion of the current season.

“The Netherlands-born coach will arrive after three highly successful seasons with Feyenoord, during which he led them to the league title in 2023 and was named Eredivisie Manager of the Year on two occasions,” the club noted.

Slot’s tenure at Feyenoord has been marked by notable achievements, including a victory in the KNVB Cup in April, where his team secured a 1-0 win against NEC Nijmegen in the final.

Prior to his success with Feyenoord, Slot served as the head coach at AZ Alkmaar.

Under his leadership, AZ Alkmaar finished second in the Eredivisie, trailing Ajax only on goal difference when the 2019-20 season was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Before moving to Feyenoord, Slot held the position of AZ Alkmaar head coach, and he had led them to second place in the table, trailing leaders Ajax only on goal difference, when the Dutch season was cancelled due to COVID-19 in 2019-20,” the statement continued.

Slot’s playing career saw him operate primarily as a midfielder, with stints at FC Zwolle, NAC Breda, Sparta Rotterdam, and PEC Zwolle, before he retired in 2013.

He is set to become Liverpool’s first head coach from the Netherlands, and his first pre-season with the squad will begin in July, marking the start of a new chapter for the club.
