Policemen stationed at the Bristol Palace Hotel in Kano on Monday barred several journalists, from covering the Second Extraordinary Session of the Sixth Legislature of the Parliament of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Despite presenting their identity cards, reporters were turned away by a stern-faced policeman stationed at the main entrance of the hotel.
Insisting that the journalists must contact the officials who had extended the invitations, the officer refused them entry.
Frustrated by the encounter, journalists waited for approximately 30 minutes in hopes of resolving the issue.
However, their efforts to reason with the officer proved futile, leading them to ultimately abandon their coverage plans for the event.
The Second Extraordinary Session, scheduled to take place at the Bristol Hotel in Kano from the 20th to the 25th of May 2024, is anticipated to draw parliamentarians from a range of West African nations.
