Alhaji Nasir Ado Bayero, the former Emir of Bichi, has stated that he accepts his removal from the throne as an act of God.
This declaration comes in the wake of significant changes within the Kano Emirate following the repeal of a law that had previously fragmented the emirate and elevated new emirs.
Bayero, along with four other first-class emirs, was affected by the recent legislative changes signed into law by Governor Abba Bichi Yusuf.
These changes reversed the appointments made by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, who had appointed new emirs in 2019 after dethroning Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi as the Emir of Kano.
In an interview with BBC Hausa, Bayero expressed his acceptance of the situation, emphasizing that he harbors no ill feelings towards anyone involved in his removal.
“I accept this as an act of God,” he said.
“I hold no grudge against anybody.
This is a part of life’s journey, and I am at peace with it.”
Governor Yusuf’s recent enactment of the new law mandated the sacking of all emirs appointed by his predecessor and gave them 48 hours to vacate their palaces.
They were instructed to hand over to the Commissioner of Chieftaincy and Local Government Affairs.
Despite the abruptness of the action, Bayero has no intention of challenging the decision in court.
“I have no plans to contest this action in court,” he stated.
“If given another opportunity to serve in any capacity, I am ready and willing to contribute to the development of our people.”
