Panic ensued in a section of Lagos State on Monday when over 100 hoodlums stormed the Ipaja Police Station, leading to a violent confrontation.

The attack, which occurred in the early hours, resulted in a gun battle between the thugs and police officers, leaving several of the assailants dead.

The incident, which has caused widespread fear among residents, began when the hoodlums launched a surprise attack on the police station.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing continuous gunfire as the police engaged the attackers in a fierce battle.

A resident, who preferred to remain anonymous, described the scene as chaotic and terrifying.

“There was gunfire everywhere.

We were all scared for our lives and had to take cover.

It was like a war zone,” the resident recounted.

In response to the attack, police personnel were quickly dispatched to the area for reinforcement.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident, assuring the public that the situation had been brought under control.

Hundeyin said, “The situation has been curtailed but no arrest has been made yet.”

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but authorities are investigating the incident to uncover the reasons behind such a brazen assault on a police facility.

Residents of Ipaja and surrounding areas have expressed their concerns about safety and the potential for further violence.

Many have called for increased security measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

The Lagos State Police Command has vowed to intensify efforts to apprehend the remaining perpetrators and ensure that peace and order are restored in the area.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the security challenges facing various parts of the state and the need for continued vigilance and robust law enforcement strategies.

As the investigation continues, the community remains on edge, hoping for swift action from the police to prevent a recurrence and to bring those responsible to justice.
