President Bola Tinubu has granted an extension of free train rides on the Abuja Rail Mass Transit, known as the Metro Rail, for an additional six months until the end of the year.
The decision came during Tinubu’s address at the inauguration of the Abuja metro rail’s operations on Wednesday.
Initially, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, had announced a two-month free ride period to alleviate the commuting burden for FCT residents.
However, Tinubu, in his address, urged for the extension, emphasizing the importance of providing hope and reasons for celebration to the people of the FCT.
“Our dear landlord and his team, I heard you saying two months free ride.
I appeal to you to make it till the end of the year.
Since today you’re not going to charge me, that will give the people hope and reasons to celebrate,” Tinubu said.
The extension of the free train rides is expected to ease transportation costs for residents of the FCT and provide relief amidst economic challenges.
Further details on the implementation of the extended free rides will be provided in due course.
