The Osun State Government has issued a directive to all public and private schools in the state to start reciting the old national anthem, “Nigeria, We hail thee,” which was recently approved by President Bola Tinubu.

In a release signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Murtala Jimoh, the government instructed schools to incorporate the returned anthem into their morning assemblies.

Tinubu signed the National Anthem bill on Wednesday, seeking to reinstate the old national anthem, ‘Nigeria, We hail thee’.

According to the statement, Jimoh directed all heads of schools to ensure that pupils and students learn the anthem and commence singing it during their morning assemblies without delay.

“The Federal Government recently approved a new National Anthem for the country, it is therefore pertinent for schools across Osun State to comply with this directive,” the release stated.

“It is expected that it is the new Anthem that should be rendered during their various morning assemblies and this should be done as a matter of duty,” it added.
