In a surprising move, Chelsea Football Club has announced the appointment of Enzo Maresca as their new manager on a five-year contract, with the option of an extra year.
This announcement comes following the departure of Mauricio Pochettino, who left the club by mutual consent on 21 May after just one season at Stamford Bridge.
The 44-year-old Italian, who previously managed Leicester City, will be taking over the reins at Chelsea starting from 1 July.
Maresca’s appointment marks the sixth managerial change for the club in the last five years and the fourth since American investor Todd Boehly and private equity firm Clearlake Capital acquired the club in May 2022.
Maresca’s successful tenure at Leicester City saw him lead the team to the Championship title last season, showcasing his aptitude for managing and coaching at the highest levels of English football.
Fans and analysts alike are eager to see how Maresca will shape the team and handle the high expectations that come with leading a prestigious club like Chelsea.
Maresca expressed his enthusiasm about the new role, stating, “I am honored to be entrusted with this position at a club with such a rich footballing history.
I am excited about the challenges ahead and look forward to contributing to Chelsea’s continued success.”
