The Niger State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Ahmed Baba Suleiman Yumu, has disclosed that rescue operations of 30 miners trapped in a collapsed pit in Galadima-Kogo, Shiroro Local Government Area of the state are being hindered by insecurity and difficult terrain.
In a statement by the Director of Media and Strategy in the ministry, Hanibu Abubakar Wushishi, the commissioner emphasized the collaborative efforts of the ministry, other agencies, and professional stakeholders in the ongoing rescue mission despite the challenges.
He stressed the need for caution due to the risk of further collapse if the rescue efforts are not carried out professionally.
Furthermore, the ministry has called for the careful consideration of mining procedures and urged relevant authorities to monitor and supervise mining activities to prevent future occurrences.
The commissioner and his team have appealed for patience, understanding, and prayers from all Nigerlites and Nigerians for the successful rescue of the trapped miners.
