Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has raised concerns over the vandalization of the Second Niger Bridge.
This comes in light of a viral video shared by social media influencer Lord Zeus, which exposed the vandalism.
The video showed rail fittings installed on the bridge being uprooted and vandalized.
Lord Zeus, who stood on the bridge, cautioned drivers about the uprooted railings, especially at night, in the circulated video on Monday.
Peter Obi commended Lord Zeus for bringing attention to the issue, stating, “The viral video of this good Nigerian copiously points out the senseless criminality and vandalism of our collective assets which is capable of causing grievous harm to members of the public if left unchecked.”
Expressing his concerns about the constant destruction of public property, Obi urged the government and security agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to justice.
He also emphasized the need for strict disciplinary measures for those who vandalize public assets and advocated for the installation of reliable surveillance systems to monitor the security of vital public infrastructure.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, also condemned the vandalism of the bridge, labeling it as a cowardly attack on the nation’s progress.
