Defending champion Iga Swiatek made quick work of her match at the French Open on Sunday, defeating Russia’s Anastasia Potapova 6-0, 6-0 in just 40 minutes.
The world No 1, Swiatek, who is vying for her fourth Roland Garros title, will face either Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova or Serbia’s Olga Danilovic in the quarterfinals.
In a post-match interview, Swiatek expressed her focus and determination, saying, “I was really focused and in the zone.
I wasn’t looking at the score so I continued working on my game.”
She also commented on the unusual weather, noting, “It doesn’t feel like summer in Europe. We’ll see what the weather is going to be like.
The forecast is not precise.”
In another successful match, American third seed Coco Gauff secured her spot in the quarterfinals with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Italy’s Elisabetta Cocciaretto.
Gauff, the US Open champion, will now face eighth seed Ons Jabeur or Denmark’s Clara Tauson in the next round.
Meanwhile, Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova defeated Serbian qualifier Olga Danilovic 6-4, 6-2 to set up a quarterfinal clash with tournament favorite Iga Swiatek.
