A landlord, Benjamin Apeh, tragically passed away after reportedly collapsing during an altercation with his tenant over unpaid rent.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Police Command, SP Omolola Odutola, disclosed in a statement on Tuesday in Abeokuta that the incident took place on Sunday at Arigbabu Village, Sotubo in the Sagamu local government area of Ogun.
According to Odutola, a suspected murder case was reported on Monday at 5:00 p.m. by the daughter of the deceased, Precious Apeh.
She informed the police that her father had engaged in an argument with the tenant at 7:20 p.m. on Saturday regarding unpaid house rent.
Furthermore, Precious Apeh indicated to the police that at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, she overheard her father once again involved in a dispute with the tenant, who allegedly threatened to take his life.
“During the argument, Apeh collapsed and was rushed to NNPC Hospital, Mosimi, but was later confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.
The suspect fled the scene, but efforts are underway to apprehend him,” Odutola stated.
The police spokesperson also mentioned that the body of the deceased has been deposited at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) Morgue, Sagamu.
The community has been left in shock and the authorities are actively pursuing the suspect in connection with this tragic incident.
