A recent Israeli attack on central Gaza has resulted in the deaths of at least 62 people, including women and children, as reported by medical sources in the Palestinian territory.

The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) have announced that they are currently conducting an investigation into the incident.

The IDF stated that targeted operations were initiated in al-Bureij in central Gaza and in areas in the east of Deir al-Balah on Tuesday.

The airstrikes, which specifically targeted military compounds, Hamas weapons depots, and underground infrastructure belonging to the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas, resulted in the elimination of several Hamas terrorists, according to the IDF.

Although Israeli soldiers had previously been deployed in al-Bureij at the beginning of the year, they later withdrew from the area.

However, the IDF stated that Hamas continues to be present in the densely populated area.

Residents of the al-Bureij and al-Maghazi refugee camps reported uninterrupted attacks in the area, prompting thousands of people to flee to the nearby Nuseirat refugee camp.

Additionally, the IDF continued operations in Rafah in the south of the coastal region, stating that armed men posing a threat to Israeli soldiers were killed.
