Joseph Aloba, father of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad, was recently questioned by officers of the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Alagbon in the Ikoyi area of Lagos State concerning a petition filed by Oba Saheed Elegushi.

The head of the Aloba legal team, Monisola Odumosu, released a statement on Tuesday, detailing that the petition against Aloba pertains to allegations of cyberbullying, cyberstalking, and criminal defamation.

Odumosu clarified that the petition was triggered by remarks Aloba made during a recent interview, particularly about the circumstances surrounding his son’s demise.

Aloba supposedly stated during the interview that his son was bullied and killed on the instruction of Oba Elegushi, implicating a certain individual named Sam Larry.

Aloba, however, emphasized that he did not intend to defame or engage in cyberbullying or cyberstalking activities against Oba Elegushi.

He expressed that his primary motive was to seek justice for his late son.

During the interaction, Aloba reiterated that he lacked concrete proof to substantiate the accusations against the monarch, apart from the petition authored by his late son and their previous phone conversations.

He stated that Oba Elegushi demanded a retraction of the defamatory statements made by him on social media.

Aloba’s legal representative clarified that he was neither arrested nor detained and was granted bail without difficulty.

The lawyer also emphasized that Aloba is still mourning the loss of his son and may have made statements influenced by grief.

Mohbad passed away at the age of 27 on September 12, 2023, under circumstances that triggered controversies on social media.

His demise prompted the Lagos State Police Command to inaugurate a 13-man special investigation team to probe the singer’s death.

Furthermore, the revelation by the US-based lab contradicted previous statements made by the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy regarding the toxicology test conducted at NMS Labs in Pennsylvania, USA.

Finally, in May 2024, a pathologist testifying before the Coroner’s Court indicated that an autopsy couldn’t determine Mohbad’s cause of death due to the decomposition of his body.
