The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to swiftly arrest and prosecute the dismissed former Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mallam Hudu Yunusa Ari.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, emphasized the urgency of bringing Ari to justice, citing the potential threat to the nation’s democracy caused by the delay in prosecuting the ex-REC.
Ologunagba highlighted Ari’s alleged attempt to subvert the nation’s democracy by orchestrating the installation of an unlawful government in Adamawa, which violates the constitutional provisions of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
According to the PDP spokesman, Ari’s actions during the last governorship election amounted to a “civilian coup” that undermined national sovereignty, incited a crisis in Adamawa State, and posed a significant threat to national peace and security.
Following Ari’s ousting by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the subsequent declaration of Governor Ahmed Fintiri as the legitimate and duly elected Governor of Adamawa State, the former REC has reportedly been evading authorities.
Nonetheless, as emphasized by Ologunagba, the passage of time does not diminish the seriousness of the alleged criminal conduct, and the PDP is resolute in pursuing the matter to its rightful conclusion.
Drawing attention to the issuance of a Warrant of Arrest for Mallam Hudu Yunusa Ari by the High Court of Justice of Adamawa State, Ologunagba underscored the imperative for the Inspector General of Police to promptly execute the court’s order and bring Ari to face prosecution for his purported criminal behavior.
The PDP maintains that the delay in diligently prosecuting Ari poses a substantial threat to democracy and the rule of law, firmly asserting that nobody is above the law.
In light of these concerns, the PDP unequivocally urges the Inspector General of Police to comply with the court’s order and promptly apprehend and present Mallam Hudu Yunusa Ari before the Court for prosecution.
