A final-year student of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua, identified simply as Saviour, was tragically shot dead by suspected armed robbers on Saturday night.
The deceased, a student of the Electrical Electronics Department, was reportedly attacked around 8 pm in the Ikot Uboh area of Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area.
Saviour was said to be trying to retrieve his cellphone from the robbers when he was shot.
Eyewitnesses recounted that the victim attempted to raise an alarm, prompting the robbers to open fire.
“He tried to drag his phone back and scream for help, but they shot him instantly,” a source revealed.
This incident has instilled fear among the residents of the area, who now worry about their safety.
Responding to the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Timfon John, assured the public that the police were committed to bringing the culprits to justice.
“The perpetrators will be apprehended and made to face the full weight of the law.
It is the determination of CP Waheed Ayilara to rid Akwa Ibom State of criminal elements.
And this is not negotiable,” she stated.
