Six governors from the South-West geopolitical zone are currently convening at the Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja, for a pivotal meeting hosted by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
As of 11:30 am on Monday, three of the six governors had already arrived at the state house.
Among the early arrivals was Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun.
Other governors expected to join the meeting include Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde; Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke; Ondo State Acting Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa; and Ekiti State Governor, Abiodun Oyebanji.
While the specific agenda of the meeting remains undisclosed as of press time, sources suggest that discussions could center around the ongoing minimum wage negotiations between the organized labour unions and the Federal Government.
Other critical issues likely to be addressed include the security situation in the region and other pressing state matters.
Following the closed-door session, it is anticipated that the governors will brief members of the state house correspondents on the outcomes of their deliberations.
This meeting comes at a time of heightened tension and negotiation over the proposed N62,000 minimum wage, which has been met with strong resistance from the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).
The unions have declared that they will not accept any wage offer deemed insufficient for workers’ livelihood, setting the stage for potential industrial actions if their demands are not met.
