Nearly a year since the inauguration of the 10th Senate, 24 out of the 109 senators are yet to sponsor any bill in the upper chamber of the National Assembly.
This revelation comes as the Senate approaches its first anniversary on June 13, 2024.
A review of the legislative activities from July 13, 2023, to March 2024, shows that a total of 279 bills were sponsored by 85 senators.
Lawmaking remains a primary function of legislators, yet a significant number are yet to make their mark in this regard.
Among the 109 senators, the Red Chamber initially included 14 former governors, though this number has adjusted following the appointments of Senators David Umahi (APC, Ebonyi South) and Ibrahim Geidam (APC, Yobe East) as ministers in President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Subsequently, former Plateau State Governor, Senator Simon Lalong (APC, Plateau South), was sworn in to replace Senator Napoleon Bali (PDP, Plateau South) after a judicial ruling.
