The immediate-past National Vice Chairman, North-west, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Salihu Lukman, has issued a stern warning to Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State, predicting their imminent exit alongside President Bola Tinubu within the next three years.
Lukman’s remarks came amidst escalating tensions within the APC ranks, particularly in Kaduna State.
In a strongly worded letter titled “Issues of Politics and Governance in Kaduna: The Truth,” Lukman criticized Governor Uba Sani for allegedly orchestrating a proxy war against his predecessor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, at the behest of the Presidency.
Lukman accused Sani of autocratic behavior and cautioned that such actions could lead to their political downfall.
“I am honestly worried for you.
You are setting a precedence that will hurt you.
All I can say is, be careful.
Maximum, in the next 7 years, you will be out,” Lukman wrote, addressing Governor Uba Sani directly.
Lukman highlighted his concerns about the declining state of democracy within the APC and pointed out that recent developments had undermined the party’s democratic values.
He criticized the lack of internal meetings and the sidelining of dissenting voices within the party, signaling a departure from the democratic principles the APC purportedly stands for.
The former Director General of the Progressives Governors Forum (PGF) lamented the deterioration of relationships within the Kaduna State APC, particularly between Governor Uba Sani and key party figures.
Lukman suggested that the Governor’s actions were precipitating a divisive atmosphere detrimental to the party’s unity and stability.
Lukman also addressed the issue of ongoing probes initiated by the Kaduna State House of Assembly, asserting that while he supported accountability, the manner in which these probes were conducted lacked transparency and clear objectives.
Regarding Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, Lukman acknowledged his developmental strides in Kaduna State but criticized his leadership style, particularly his alleged failure to build robust relationships with stakeholders.
“Partly because of poor leadership, the narrative is that it is the Presidency that is also covertly pushing you,” Lukman stated, referencing the alleged opposition from the Presidency towards El-Rufai, which he claimed was disrupting the party’s cohesion.
Lukman concluded his letter by reaffirming his commitment to advocating for change within the APC and hinted at mobilizing efforts to oust the current leadership in 2027 if reforms were not implemented.
The situation in Kaduna State continues to unfold amidst internal party wrangling, raising questions about the future direction of the APC in the state and nationwide.
