The Kogi State Government has announced a ban on traditional processions in Kotonkarfe, located in the Kogi Local Government Area (LGA), citing security concerns.

This decision was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, in a statement issued on Tuesday.

Fanwo explained that recent security reports indicated potential unrest in Kotonkarfe due to plans by certain individuals to incite trouble. The government’s action aims to maintain peace and order in the area.

“The proactive ban is aimed at curbing plans by some elements in the area to disturb the peace of the ancient town,” Fanwo stated. He emphasized that Governor Usman Ododo is committed to ensuring peaceful coexistence among all residents of Kotonkarfe.

“Governor Ododo has reiterated his administration’s commitment to peaceful coexistence among all Kotonkarfe people. He will always leave his doors open to listen to complaints and grievances rather than resort to violence,” Fanwo added.

The commissioner urged all parties to adhere strictly to the ban, warning that violators would be treated as enemies of peace and the state.

He noted that the government’s decision is aimed at protecting the rights and safety of the people of Kotonkarfe and all citizens.

Fanwo also called on law enforcement agencies to enforce the ban in accordance with the laws of the land.

He appealed to the people of Kotonkarfe to commit to peace and harmony, assuring them that the government is prepared to protect them from any form of violence.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the former Governor, Yahaya Bello, had removed Alhaji Abdulrazaq Isah-Koto as the Ohimege-Igu Koton-Karfe on January 8. Isah-Koto, who also served as the Chairman of the Lokoja/Kogi Local Government Area traditional council, was deposed to Rijau Local Government Area of Niger and replaced by Alhaji Saidu Akawu-Salihu.

The decision to ban traditional processions is seen as a measure to prevent any potential escalation of tensions in the region, ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
