The music industry mourns the loss of Chief Femi Esho, the esteemed Chairman of Evergreen Musical Company, who passed away at the age of 77.
His daughter, Bimbo Esho, announced in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos that the prominent music practitioner died on Monday following a brief illness.
“We announce the passing unto glory of our patriarch, Mr. Samuel Babafemi Esho, popularly known and referred to as ‘Baba Esho’, ‘Baba Musician’, etc.,” she stated.
“Baba Esho departed to greater glory on Monday, 17th June 2024, after a brief illness at the age of 77.”
Chief Femi Esho was a revered figure in the Nigerian music scene, serving as the Chairman of Evergreen Musical Company and the Founder of the Evergreen Music Heritage Foundation.
His contributions to the preservation and promotion of Nigerian music were monumental.
“Baba Esho was a mentor and ‘encyclopedia’ to many highlife music aficionados,” Bimbo Esho added.
“He will be remembered as one who gave so much of himself to see to the ‘immortality’ of the musical works of Nigerian Highlife, Juju, Sakara, Apala, Afrobeat, and a crop of other Nigerian/African genres of indigenous music.”
