Superstar singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, and his newly-wedded wife, Chioma Adeleke, are currently enjoying their honeymoon at an undisclosed destination.
The couple departed on Thursday morning in their new $75 million private jet, as revealed by Tunde Ednut on his Instagram page, to spend some quiet and quality time together.
However, their lavish wedding, hashtagged #Chivido2024, has sparked a whirlwind of conversations.
Notable Absentees
The wedding, which had all the trappings of a high society event, was marked by the absence of some expected high-profile guests. The richest man in Africa, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, known for his close ties with Davido’s father, was notably missing.
The absence of Nigeria’s and Africa’s biggest music artists, Burna Boy and Wizkid, also raised eyebrows. Other prominent figures such as Chris Brown, Tiwa Savage, 2Baba, D’Banj, Asake, K1 De Ultimate, Pastor Tobi Adegboyega, and Kizz Daniel were also conspicuously absent.
Fear of EFCC
Although agents from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) were not present at the wedding, their presence was felt in spirit.
Many guests, including Cubana Chief Priest, were seen diligently collecting naira notes to prevent them from being scattered around, likely due to recent enforcement actions against naira abuse.
The nightclub owner recently forfeited N10 million to the government for naira abuse charges, making guests cautious.
Dollars to the Rescue
With the naira under scrutiny, guests opted to shower the couple with US dollars. It was a spectacular display of wealth, with dollar notes raining down on Davido and Chioma.
A video emerged the following day showing dollar bills being collected in bulk, resembling a disposal operation rather than a celebratory act.
Main Party and After Party
Access to the wedding was tiered, with some guests invited to the morning matrimonial ceremony and others to the after party. The main event began at 10 am, while the after party kicked off at 5 pm. Only top-tier invitees had access to both events, creating a clear division among attendees.
Fake Invites
Despite the invites, many guests were turned away due to suspicions of counterfeit access cards. Investigations revealed that some individuals had duplicated the invites and sold them to desperate fans eager to attend the star-studded wedding.
Hook-up and Runs Girls
As with any major event on the Island, hook-up and runs girls attempted to cash in. Many were politely or harshly turned away, as evidenced by a viral video showing two girls in Asoebi trying to gain entry.
Chioma Rowland’s Sister on Spot
Jennifer Rowland, Chioma’s sister, garnered significant attention on social media during the wedding. Her appearance caused such a stir that marriage proposals flooded her social media posts, suggesting another Rowland family wedding might be on the horizon.
Davido Wedding Vs Dangote Daughter’s Wedding
Social media users have begun comparing Davido’s wedding to that of Dangote’s daughter in 2018. The consensus seems to favor Davido’s event in terms of guest quality and overall setting, sparking a heated debate online.
Nightmare for Nigerian Celebrities
Despite the wedding’s grandeur, it proved to be a nightmare for some celebrities who were not invited. Social media users dragged these stars, questioning their relevance and star power. One Nollywood actress had to fend off trolls, explaining that she missed the wedding due to work commitments.
New Party Innovations
The Chivido2024 wedding introduced several innovations, such as on-site tailors and cobblers, ensuring a “party without tears.” This forward-thinking approach is expected to set a new standard for high society events.
Chivido2024: Sleek Steeze on Show
Chivido2024 will likely be remembered as the most talked-about event of 2024. The wedding showcased unparalleled razzmatazz, with guests bringing their A-game in terms of style and elegance. The event was a testament to the couple’s influence and the opulent lifestyle they lead.
As Davido and Chioma continue their honeymoon, the conversations surrounding their wedding show no signs of dying down, cementing their status as one of Nigeria’s most glamorous couples.
