President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday announced the establishment of the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development.
The announcement was made during the inauguration of the Renewed Hope Livestock Reform Implementation Committee at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The President, however, did not disclose the name of the Minister for the new ministry.
It is expected that if it’s a new nominee, the President will forward the name to the Senate for screening and confirmation.
Present at the inauguration were Vice President Kashim Shettima, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, along with other cabinet members.
President Tinubu had earlier, on September 15, 2023, approved the establishment of the Presidential Committee dedicated to reforming the livestock industry and providing long-term solutions to recurring clashes between herders and farmers in the country.
This decision followed the submission of a report from the National Conference on Livestock Reforms and Mitigation of Associated Conflicts in Nigeria.
