Jubilation has continued to greet the crowning of Chima Udoye as the winner of Nigerian Idol season 9, which took place on Sunday night in Lagos.

Fans have described his victory as well-deserved, celebrating his win with the sentiment that “the crown went to whom it fits.”

Chima walked away with a cash prize of 30 million naira, a brand-new SUV, and a one-year premium subscription to DStv Explora plus.

The intense finale episode kicked off with a powerful rendition of John Legend’s “Glory” by all 10 contestants, followed by special appearances from past winners Progress and Victory Gbakara.

The audience was treated to guest performances from vocal powerhouses Omawumi, Simi, and Chike before the top three contestants—Lammy, Chioma, and Chima—took the centre stage for their final performances.

As the night progressed, the atmosphere grew even more electric with performances from guest artists and the top three finalists. When Chima was finally announced as the winner, he could hardly believe it, with tears of joy nearly rolling down his cheeks. Expressing his gratitude, Chima said, “I almost fought back tears.”

Fans were quick to celebrate his win. One fan, Uche, said, “Thank you for being so amazing. Your performance gives me chills.” Another fan, themolayo, added, “Congratulations Chima! I rooted for you from the beginning and I’m really so proud of myself that I was able to recognize a winner from the start.”

Marietta5093 shared a heartfelt message:

“Chima, God has destined greatness for you, and your name is a testament to His divine plan! I was overflowing with joy when you were declared the winner – it was like a dream come true!

Chima is known for his onstage charisma and vocal dexterity, which consistently left judges 9ice, Omawumi, and Ric Hassani speechless after every performance.

During the finale, Omawumi noted that Chima was in a competition with himself, highlighting his extraordinary talent and potential beyond the boundaries of the show.

Specializing in jazz and soul music, Chima revealed at the beginning of the competition that he hoped to showcase his vocal prowess and use the Nigerian Idol platform to inspire others. Twelve weeks later, he achieved his goal and more, being crowned the winner.

During her speech at the finale, Dr. Busola Tejumola, Executive Head, Content and Channels, West Africa, MultiChoice, commended Chima for emerging victorious and highlighted the resilience it took for him to reach this spot.

Chima was presented with his prizes—a 30 million naira cash reward, a brand-new SUV, and a DStv Explora with a one-year premium subscription—as the celebrations continued into the night.
