The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a 19-year-old boy, reportedly beaten to death by his father.

The tragic incident has drawn significant attention and concern from the public.

The Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday.

He disclosed that the Alagbado Police Division received the report of the alleged crime on Tuesday, sparking the ongoing investigation.

According to Hundeyin, the incident occurred around noon on July 5, when Olumide, the father, allegedly inflicted a deep cut on his son, Adeyemi, with a shovel. The attack was purportedly a form of “moderate correction” over an undisclosed offence.

“At about 12:00 p.m. on July 5, one Olumide gave his son, Adeyemi, a deep cut on his right-hand side with a shovel,” Hundeyin stated.

The injuries sustained from the attack were severe, prompting immediate medical attention. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, Adeyemi’s condition worsened.

He was subsequently transferred to the General Hospital in Ikeja, where he succumbed to his injuries due to a tetanus infection.

Hundeyin confirmed the grim outcome:

“The young man was immediately rushed to the hospital for treatment. But when the injury became serious, he was taken to the General Hospital Ikeja, where he gave up the ghost as a result of tetanus infection, as confirmed by the doctor on duty.”

Detectives from the Alagbado Division have visited the scene as part of their investigation. However, the father, Olumide, is currently at large, intensifying the urgency of the case.

“The scene was visited by detectives of the division. However, the father of the victim is currently at large, and the case is under investigation,” Hundeyin added.
