Protest ‘ll Lead To Violence, Anarchy – Defence Headquarters

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) on Thursday raised alarms over the possibility of violent elements hijacking the planned nationwide protest against economic hardship, warning of parallels to recent events in Kenya.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, disclosed that intelligence reports suggest the protest might be a ruse to incite violence and chaos similar to what transpired in Kenya.

“There are strong indicators that unscrupulous elements plan to hijack the process, leading to anarchy,” Major General Buba stated.

Intelligence and Military Readiness

The DHQ emphasized its commitment to maintaining national order and preventing any descent into chaos. Major General Buba stressed the military’s readiness to intervene if the protest turns violent.

“Intelligence at the military’s disposal showed the protest would be hijacked by some unscrupulous elements,” he revealed.

“The aim of the protest is to show you what is happening in Kenya. And I would add that what is happening in Kenya in terms of the protest, one, is violence. Two, it remains unresolved as we speak now.”

Potential for Violence

Highlighting the military’s concerns, Major General Buba outlined the risks posed by the planned protest, citing potential targets including individuals with basic possessions, places of worship, businesses, and markets.

“Our duty as military is clear under the constitution,” he asserted. “Citizens have the right to peaceful protest, but not to mobilize for anarchy and unleash terror.”

Call for Calm

The DHQ urged citizens to remain calm and allow the government to address the current economic challenges and work towards restoring national prosperity.

General Buba called for public awareness about the unique circumstances surrounding this protest, stressing the importance of maintaining peace and order.

Nationwide Vigilance

In light of these concerns, the military has called for vigilance and cooperation from the public to ensure that the protests remain peaceful and do not spiral into violence.

The DHQ’s warning comes as tensions rise across the nation, with many citizens frustrated by the ongoing economic hardship.

The planned protest, intended to voice these grievances, now faces scrutiny over the potential for it to be manipulated by those with violent intentions.
