Teenager Steals Phone Inside Mosque, Faces Prosecution

A 19-year-old man, Karim Sodiq, was arraigned on Friday before an Ona-Ara Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly stealing a cell phone inside a mosque.

Sodiq, whose address was not provided, faced charges of stealing and housebreaking, to which he pleaded not guilty.

Incident Details

The Prosecutor, Inspector Adeshina Folaranmi, informed the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 21 at approximately 7:50 p.m. at Oju-Aba Mosque in the Moniya area of Ibadan.

According to Folaranmi, the defendant broke into the mosque and stole an Infinix Smart 6 phone valued at N100,000, belonging to one Akorede Suliyat.

The offences are said to contravene Sections 415 and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

Court Proceedings

Presiding over the case, Magistrate Ayorinde Ayo-Alagbe granted Sodiq bail in the sum of N200,000, with two reliable sureties in the same amount.

Magistrate Ayo-Alagbe adjourned the case until August 15 for further hearing.
