Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, representing Anambra South district in the National Assembly, has passed away in the United Kingdom.
The politician and businessman, who was also the CEO of Capital Oil, died during an operation in a UK hospital, according to sources close to him. Ubah had left Nigeria for the UK two days prior to his death.
Confirmation of Death
A close friend of the late senator confirmed his death. “Yes, he is dead,” the source said. “We are waiting for the family to issue a statement. We spoke to him three times yesterday, before he went into the theatre for the operation.”
Political Career
Ubah defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) from the Young Progressives Party (YPP) last year.
He was a prominent figure in Anambra politics and had a significant influence both as a politician and a businessman.
Surviving Assassination Attempt
In September 2022, Ubah survived an assassination attempt in Enugwu Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State. The attack claimed the lives of three police escorts in his convoy. The senator’s survival of the incident added to his reputation as a resilient figure in Nigerian politics.
