A mob vandalized a section of MTN’s office in Festac Town, Lagos, on Monday, following the telecommunications company’s recent decision to block certain SIM cards.
The disturbance was reportedly sparked by customers’ frustration over the sudden inability to access their mobile services.
In a video obtained by Vanguard, disgruntled MTN customers were seen protesting outside the company’s office, expressing their displeasure over the SIM blockade.
The situation escalated as a group of youths began vandalizing the property.
In a related incident, hundreds of MTN customers in Osun State staged a protest at the company’s head office located in Dada Estate.
The protestors, many of whom had arrived as early as 6 a.m., were seeking to resolve issues related to the blockage of their SIM cards, which had been deactivated due to inconsistencies with their National Identification Number (NIN) records.
The demonstrators, including elderly individuals, pregnant women, and civil servants, were visibly upset by the lack of response from MTN staff.
The protest led to the blockage of the Osogbo-Iwo Road, causing significant traffic disruption and creating gridlock in the Oke-Fia area of Osogbo, the state capital.
The incidents in both locations highlight the widespread frustration among MTN customers affected by the SIM blockages.
Many of the affected individuals have complained about the inconvenience and disruption caused by the sudden loss of access to their mobile services.
