In a nationwide address on Sunday, President Bola Tinubu called for dialogue amidst the ongoing nationwide protests that have gripped Nigeria since Thursday.

The protests, initially sparked by rising living costs and widespread hunger, have escalated into violence, property destruction, and loss of lives in various regions.

President Tinubu assured Nigerians that his administration is prepared to listen and address the concerns of the protesters. Emphasizing the theme of “Renewed Hope,” he acknowledged past disappointments but expressed confidence in a brighter future.

“We are working hard for you, and the results will soon be visible and concrete for everyone to see, feel, and enjoy,” the President stated.

Highlighting economic progress, Tinubu noted that aggregate government revenues had more than doubled, surpassing ₦9.1 trillion in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023.

This increase, he attributed to efforts to curb financial leakages, implement automation, and creatively mobilize funding without additional burdens on citizens.

He also pointed to a rise in productivity within the non-oil sector, leveraging current economic opportunities.

The President urged patience from Nigerians, stressing the ongoing recovery of the economy.

“The economy is recovering; please, don’t shut out its oxygen,” he appealed, calling for a collective effort to maintain stability and allow the nation to heal and grow.
