In a bold defiance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive, protesters stormed the streets of Gusau, the capital of Zamfara State, on Monday.
Waving Russian flags and calling for President Vladimir Putin’s intervention, the demonstrators expressed their dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs in Nigeria.
The protesters, carrying leaves and Russian flags, chanted various songs as they marched through the streets.
In conversations with some of the participants, it was revealed that the display of Russian flags symbolized their plea for assistance from President Putin, indicating the depth of their grievances and the urgency of their situation.
One of the protesters, Yakubu Aliyu, popularly known as “the leader,” spoke to our correspondent about the motivation behind the demonstration.
“We are out on a peaceful demonstration, not to cause violence or destroy government or public properties, but to ensure our leaders understand our grievances,” Aliyu explained.
He also criticized President Tinubu’s recent speech, delivered in a broadcast on Sunday, calling it “empty” and stating that it had only served to provoke further discontent among Nigerians.
The demonstration in Gusau is part of a broader wave of protests across the country, as citizens express frustration over various issues, including economic challenges and perceived governmental inadequacies.
