RCCG Appoints Former BOI MD, Kayode Pitan, As Senior Pastor Of City Of David Parish

After months of controversy, the Governing Council of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has appointed Pastor Kayode Pitan, the former Managing Director of the Bank of Industry (BOI), as the Senior Pastor of the City of David Parish in Lagos.

The decision follows the suspension of the previous Senior Pastor, Idowu Iluyomade, who faced allegations of corruption and refusal to accept a transfer.

Pastor Pitan is set to replace Pastor Charles Kpandei, who had been overseeing the parish since Iluyomade’s suspension two months ago.

While the appointment was not officially announced at the church’s recently concluded national convention, insiders within the mission have confirmed Pitan’s promotion and appointment, effectively ending Iluyomade’s tenure at the parish.

Background of the Controversy

The leadership change at the City of David Parish stems from a series of allegations against Pastor Idowu Iluyomade, who had led the church for several years.

Allegations of financial impropriety and resistance to a planned transfer had led to his suspension.

Pastor Charles Kpandei was temporarily appointed to manage the parish during this tumultuous period.

Pitan’s Corporate Experience to Benefit Parish

According to a source within the RCCG, “Pitan was chosen because of his extensive experience in the corporate world, which is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the parish’s leadership.

He is particularly well-suited to manage the Trinity Tower Project, a key initiative for the church.”

The Trinity Tower Project, an ambitious undertaking by the City of David Parish, is expected to be a landmark structure in Lagos.

Pitan’s background as the former MD of BOI, where he was instrumental in several high-profile projects, is seen as a significant advantage in ensuring the successful completion of the tower.

Iluyomade’s Reaction and Future in RCCG Uncertain

Regarding Pastor Iluyomade’s reaction to the appointment, sources revealed that “Iluyomade has remained silent on the development.

However, there are indications that he is not comfortable with the decision. It remains unclear whether he will continue to be part of the RCCG.”

Iluyomade’s future within the church remains a topic of speculation among church members and observers, with many awaiting his next move.

New Leadership Structure in Region 20

With Pastor Pitan’s appointment, he will also serve as the Pastor-in-Charge of Region 20, with the City of David as the regional headquarters.

Pastor Ben Akabueze has been appointed as the Assistant Pastor for the region, completing the new leadership team.

The RCCG leadership is optimistic that the new appointments will stabilize the parish and foster growth and development within the region.

The City of David Parish, known for its large congregation and significant contributions to the RCCG, is expected to benefit from the new leadership’s vision and direction.

Church Members React

The news of Pitan’s appointment has elicited mixed reactions from members of the City of David Parish.

Some members are hopeful that his corporate experience will bring about positive changes and drive the parish’s projects to successful completion.
