NiMet forecasts 3-day thunderstorms, rains from Thursday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast predicting a series of thunderstorms and rain showers across various regions in Nigeria from Thursday through Saturday.

The agency released the outlook on Wednesday in Abuja, detailing expected weather patterns for the coming days.

Thursday’s Weather Outlook

For Thursday, NiMet forecasts isolated thunderstorms in the morning over parts of Kebbi, Sokoto, Taraba, Gombe, Borno, Yobe, Kaduna, and Adamawa states. Later in the day, thunderstorms are expected to spread to parts of Borno, Jigawa, Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, Yobe, Zamfara, Bauchi, Gombe, and Adamawa states.

“In the North Central region, moderate rains are expected over parts of Niger State during the morning.

Moderate rains are also expected over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Nasarawa, and Benue States later in the day,” NiMet stated.

The southern region is expected to experience intermittent rains over parts of Imo, Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu, Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states in the afternoon and evening hours.

Friday’s Weather Forecast

On Friday, NiMet predicts thunderstorms over parts of Yobe, Jigawa, Katsina, and Kano states during the morning hours. Scattered thunderstorms are anticipated across the northern region in the afternoon and evening.

For the North Central region, isolated rains are expected over parts of Niger, Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory, and Plateau States in the morning.

Later in the day, moderate rains are forecast over parts of Niger, Plateau, Kogi, Nasarawa, the Federal Capital Territory, and Benue States.

In the southern region, cloudy skies are expected in the morning, followed by intermittent rains later in the day.

Saturday’s Weather Prediction

As for Saturday, NiMet forecasts isolated thunderstorms in the morning over parts of Sokoto, Kaduna, Bauchi, Zamfara, Adamawa, Taraba, and Kebbi States.

The afternoon and evening hours will see widespread thunderstorms across the northern region.

“Over the North Central region, moderate rains are expected during the morning hours over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Nasarawa, and Benue states,” the agency reported.

Thunderstorms with moderate rains are anticipated over most parts of the North Central region during the afternoon and evening hours.

The southern region is expected to experience intermittent rains throughout the afternoon and evening.

Urban Flooding Warning

NiMet has advised residents in major cities to avoid flood-prone areas due to the high likelihood of urban flooding caused by heavy downpours.
