The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a woman, identified as Mrs. Hauwa Sani, in possession of 124 rounds of anti-aircraft ammunition.

The suspect, who hails from Doro village in Katsina State, was apprehended at Rafin Sanyi village in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

In a statement released by the State Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramhan Nansel, the arrest was made while Mrs. Sani was traveling with a two-year-old child.

The ammunition, concealed in a gallon of palm oil, was reportedly being transported to Katsina State.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect was conveying the anti-aircraft ammunition concealed in a gallon of palm oil, heading to Katsina State,” the statement read.

In addition to the ammunition, the police also recovered a mobile telephone and a cash sum of N78,500 from the suspect.

The State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Umar Shehu Nadada, has ordered that the suspect and the exhibits be transferred to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for further investigation.

This arrest comes just two months after a similar incident in Nasarawa State, where another woman was caught in transit with ammunition headed for Katsina State.

The recurring nature of these arrests has raised concerns about the smuggling of military-grade ammunition across state lines.

The police have intensified their efforts to curb illegal arms trafficking in the region, as the discovery of such high-caliber ammunition poses a significant threat to security.
