The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, has issued a directive to Air Component Commanders across Nigeria’s operational theatres to intensify air assaults on terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements, including illegal refinery sites and bunkering operations.
This directive was announced by the Director of NAF Public Relations and Information, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, in a statement released on Tuesday.
The CAS made this call during a virtual meeting held on August 26, 2024, where he praised the Commanders for their recent successes in various operations across the country.
“Your relentless pursuit of excellence and commitment to duty have not gone unnoticed, and the recent operational successes are a testament to your leadership and the professionalism of the men and women under your command,” Air Marshal Abubakar stated.
He further emphasized the importance of maintaining the momentum gained from recent missions, which have led to the elimination of key terrorist leaders, the disruption of illegal oil activities, and the protection of vital national assets.
“We must, however, continue to hit them hard until they succumb to our superior might,” the CAS added.
While acknowledging the achievements, the CAS warned that the challenges facing the nation are far from over and called on the commanders to remain vigilant.
He urged them to continue leveraging intelligence, precision strikes, and collaboration with sister services to neutralize any remaining threats.
“We must not rest on our laurels. The security of our nation depends on our continued resolve and unwavering commitment,” he said.
Air Marshal Abubakar reassured the Commanders that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) leadership is fully committed to their welfare and will provide the necessary resources and equipment to enhance operational capabilities.
He expressed confidence in their ability to deliver on their mandate, stressing that the nation’s security and peace are paramount.
Recent air strikes targeting terrorists in Zamfara, Katsina, and Kaduna, as well as oil thieves in Rivers and Imo States, have drawn commendation from both the CAS and other Nigerians.
However, the CAS made it clear that the Service remains committed to allocating even more resources across all theatres to restore peace and ensure that citizens can pursue their lawful activities without fear for their lives or property.
