In a significant step towards enhancing gender representation within the Nigeria Police Force, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun has appointed Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) Rhoda Adetutu Olofu as the new Force Secretary.

This appointment marks a historic moment as AIG Rhoda becomes the first female officer to hold this critical position within the Nigerian Police Force (NPF).

A statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, highlighted AIG Rhoda Olofu’s impressive track record and extensive experience.

Before her recent promotion, AIG Rhoda served as the AIG in charge of the Maritime Police Command at the Force Headquarters Annex in Lagos.

She was the 20th Assistant Inspector-General of Police to hold the position and notably the third female to head the Maritime Command.

ACP Adejobi emphasized that AIG Rhoda’s appointment aligns with the IGP’s broader vision of enhancing the efficiency of the NPF and reflects recent gender policy changes aimed at increasing the representation of women in key positions within the force.

“This decision not only showcases the IGP’s commitment to gender inclusivity but also reflects a broader shift towards recognizing and utilizing the diverse talents within the force, regardless of gender,” Adejobi stated.

He further noted that this move is in line with global trends in law enforcement, which recognize the value of diverse leadership in improving community relations and overall policing effectiveness.

As the NPF continues to evolve to meet the changing needs of the nation, the Inspector-General of Police reiterated his commitment to the progressive development of the force and the promotion of gender inclusivity in all spheres.

AIG Rhoda Olofu’s new role as Force Secretary is expected to bolster the ongoing efforts to modernize the NPF and ensure that women play a more prominent role in shaping the future of policing in Nigeria.
