In a groundbreaking development for Nigeria’s energy sector, the Dangote Refinery, a $20 billion project led by billionaire Aliko Dangote, has officially commenced petrol production.

This milestone is poised to significantly ease the petrol scarcity that has plagued the nation, bringing much-needed relief to millions of Nigerians.

Speaking during a press briefing on Wednesday, Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, emphasized the refinery’s pivotal role in driving the country’s economic growth.

“This refinery will fuel growth, development, and prosperity by supplying energy to our people,” Dangote stated.

Dangote also acknowledged the support of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, crediting the government with creating an enabling environment for the project’s success.

“I salute the people of Nigeria and President Bola Tinubu’s government for creating the conditions that allowed us to achieve this monumental task.

This refinery will drive growth, development, and prosperity by providing energy to our people,” he added.

The business mogul highlighted the impact of the “Naira for crude, Naira for product” initiative introduced by the Tinubu administration, which he believes will stabilize the Naira by reducing the demand for dollars by 40%.

“As we have this refinery working, it will show the true consumption of Nigeria; we can track every loaded truck and ship,” Dangote explained.

Designed to meet the energy needs of both Nigeria and the wider sub-Saharan African region, the Dangote Refinery is set to transform the landscape of fuel supply across the continent.

On the quality of the petrol produced, Dangote assured Nigerians that they can expect world-class standards.

“You are now going to have good petrol, while the engines of your vehicles will last longer,” he said, adding, “The quality here will match that of anywhere in the world; US, America, we will make sure that nobody will beat us in terms of quality.”
