In a devastating development, Christiana Idowu, a 300-level student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State, who was kidnapped while traveling between Ikorodu and Yaba, Lagos State, has been confirmed dead.
Christiana, who was undergoing her industrial training at the University of Lagos, was abducted on her way to the university, and her captor has since been arrested following a joint effort by security agencies.
The abduction and subsequent murder of the young student have sparked outrage, with many Nigerians demanding justice for her tragic demise.
According to a post by @letter_to_jack on X (formerly Twitter), intelligence operatives were able to track down the suspect using bank details and the Bank Verification Number (BVN) linked to the ransom payments made by Christiana’s family.
The post detailed the harrowing series of events, stating, “On the 19th of August 2024, Christiannah Idowu was declared missing after her parents were contacted by her abductors using her own WhatsApp contact.
The abductors requested a ransom fee of N1,500,000, and the family managed to raise N350,000, which was transferred to a betting account specified by the abductor.”
Despite receiving part of the ransom, the kidnapper stopped communicating with Christiana’s family after requesting a bank statement from them.
Further investigation revealed suspicious activities, including transfers of funds between Christiana’s bank accounts and the suspect’s accounts, which helped intelligence agents track him down.
“By the 29th of August, operatives confirmed that the BVN linked to the masked betting account belonged to the suspect, who had a history of interacting with Christiana on social media platforms,” the post continued.
Using mobile phone tracking, operatives located the suspect at his parents’ home in Ikorodu. Nigerian Army personnel from the 174 Battalion promptly moved in to arrest him.
Upon his arrest, crucial evidence was found, including Christiana’s phone, confirming transactions between the suspect’s betting account and Christiana’s account.
Shockingly, the suspect later confessed to killing Christiana and burying her in his family’s house.
“The suspect confessed to the father and soldiers on September 3 that he killed the girl and buried her in their house,” the viral post revealed.
The revelation of the murder has stirred public outrage, with the hashtag #JusticeForChristianah trending on social media.
Many Nigerians are calling for swift justice and thorough investigation into the suspect, whose ex-girlfriend and sister allegedly met similar fates in 2018 and 2020, respectively.
