The management of Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH), Okitipupa, Ondo State, has distanced itself from the activities of Henry Okunomo Adewumi, the Senate President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), clarifying that the institution does not serve as a base for the NANS Senate President’s office.
In a statement released on September 5, 2024, and signed by the university’s Registrar, Abiodun P. Okunniga, the institution emphasized that Adewumi is no longer a student of OAUSTECH, having graduated.
The statement further noted, “We unequivocally deny any endorsement or support for the purported shutdown scheduled for September 15, 2024, and hereby distance ourselves from Okunomo’s activities.”
The university criticized the use of its premises and address for the NANS Senate President’s office, stressing that students of the university are currently on break after concluding their academic year.
OAUSTECH urged the general public to disregard any statement linking the institution with any protests or planned shutdowns.
This clarification comes on the heels of a press release issued by Okunomo after the recent fuel price hike by the federal government.
In the release, Okunomo had threatened nationwide protests if the price was not reversed.
In its statement, OAUSTECH firmly rejected any association with Okunomo’s protest plans, reiterating that his actions and office have no connection to the university.
