Gunmen on Wednesday abducted and killed the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Suru Local Government Area of Kebbi State, Alhaji Bako Bala.

According to reports, the armed men stormed Bala’s hometown, abducted him, and later shot him, leaving him in a pool of blood.

This was confirmed through a post on the official Facebook page of the Special Adviser to the Kebbi State Governor on Television and Radio, Alhaji Zaidu Bala Kofa Sabuwa.

Following the attack, Bala was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kebbi, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries later that day.

The brutal killing of the APC chairman has sent shockwaves across Kebbi State, with many expressing concerns over the rising insecurity in the region.

Alhaji Bako Bala was described as a dedicated leader who played a significant role in the political landscape of Suru Local Government Area.

In a related incident, bandits allegedly kidnapped an individual in Matseri village, under Bunza Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The assailants also shot a young man, who is currently receiving treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Birnin Kebbi.

Despite repeated efforts to contact the spokesperson of the Kebbi State Police Command, SP Nafiu Abubakar, no official statement has been issued regarding the incidents.

Kebbi State has been grappling with a wave of kidnappings for ransom in recent months, despite ongoing efforts by security forces, with the support of the state government, to curb criminal activities and rescue victims from bandits’ hideouts.

The rising spate of violence has heightened concerns among residents, who continue to call for stronger security measures to restore peace in the region.
