The Tripartite Committee on the New National Minimum Wage met with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

This meeting follows the recent suspension of the strike for five days by the organized Labour, which includes the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC).

The committee’s visit to the Villa was aimed at discussing the next steps following the promise to pay above N60,000 as the minimum wage.

The team was also expected to update the President on the ongoing negotiations and seek his approval for a new offer to be presented to the labor unions as negotiations resume.

Notable figures present at the meeting included the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun; the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Atiku Bagudu; and the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Melee Kyari.

The Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, also attended this crucial meeting.

It is important to note that the organized Labour had declared an indefinite strike on Monday, which significantly impacted economic activities across the country.

In an effort to mediate the situation, the leadership of the National Assembly had a meeting with labor on Sunday night, appealing to them and urging the Federal Government to find a middle ground to resolve the impasse.
