In a recent speech at the inauguration of the new high court complex in Asaba, former President Goodluck Jonathan emphasized the critical importance of judicial integrity in reducing the number of election-related court cases.

He expressed the belief that if politicians were confident that judges would not declare election losers as winners, then they would be less likely to resort to litigation.

The former president estimated that approximately 50 percent of court cases stem from perceived electoral injustices, emphasizing the impact of fair elections in decreasing the number of legal disputes.

According to Jonathan, addressing electoral management system failures and ensuring fair elections could significantly reduce the recourse to litigation by politicians who feel cheated by the system.

Moreover, Jonathan commended the efforts of the Delta government in enhancing the working environment of judicial officers and praised Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for prioritizing infrastructural development and demonstrating a commitment to completing projects initiated by previous governments.

He particularly highlighted the significance of continuity and development in governance and acknowledged the governor’s integrity and dedication to responsible resource management.

In response, Governor Oborevwori reiterated his commitment to completing projects inherited from previous administrations and fulfilled the promise of presenting 20 Toyota Prado SUVs to judges in the state.

He expressed gratitude to former President Jonathan for gracing the inauguration event and praised him as a great Nigerian patriot, statesman, and exemplary leader both during and after his tenure in office.
